In my experience building a desk is very easy . . . as long as you don't buy it from Ikea.
Note: Never buy anything from Ikea period.
I dont think I made desk but it wouldnt be hard at all.

focus and B&Q do then for about ?50 or MFI if you want one for ?20
i made my desk from scratch.
get some kitchen work surface and some stainless steal poles (like towl rack poles) Attach the back of the work surface to the wall (screw it onto an mdf ledge attached to the wall or summin) and then use the poles as legs at the front. Very cheap and much more sturdy than any other desk i have ever had. Also it is probably worth drilling some strategically placed holes for wires to go through.

Seriously tou u need 2 be carefull what ur attaching the desk to if ur building one. A stud wall wont hold alot of weight, so if ur hanging a desk mainly off a wall u need 2 be using and external wall. But if u use supports at each corner and a piece of 2"1' on the wall to support it you should be ok. When i get back home im gonna build me a new desk, a corner desk as mine just dosnt cut it any more!
stud wall?
any wall is fine as long as it is made of bricks or summin (not plaster board)

well, as far as being an alcoholoc is concerned, its not easy, it takes commitment so keep up the good work tuBBymaN. But WOW. my first thread (totally accidently)and 3 pages worth of replies. i was trying to reply to one of the tbgXII oh how we love thee and somehow managed 2 create a new thread. i was however thinking about using kitchen style worktop purely because they are incredibly deep and can take my pc70, 19" monitor, and a decent sized keyboard. how much did it cost you addz?

:) You nice shinny new thread was made becuase you managed to pull the orginal thread so far off topic it needed to be split ;)
Staying on topic is something this forum has a problem with, but as its member base is still only small I rarely inforce it. We like'a da random!

another post full of information.
I am gonna be crazy and talk about the topic!! (gasp) and also include information!!!!
Although it would be fairly easy to build a desk you really arent gonig to save much money or get a nice finish. If you just want a desk buy a cheap one from Argos or something and renforce it. However if you want a bench kitchen worktop is a very good idea, dont know how expensive thou. Hang it from the wall and then put metal legs on it. I always wanted to make a desk like thatand then cut empty coke cans and put them over the legs so it looked like it was resting on a huge stack of cans :)

ROFL jynx, coke cans and sorry for the off topic reply, although getting a desk from argos doesnt sound bad as i have a good mate who works at my local one and he can get me 10% off :D but im not sure if i can do that now, as i have just finished building my 2nd machine which also needs to go on desk along with other monitor, other mouse, and other keyboard
Heh np mate. Really thou I want to see what that coke can desk would look like. Please someone try it and post it!!! I think addz could do it on his :)

Heh, my desk is an made from two old doors, cut to fit the width of my room, attached to the wall much like add'z said much further back.
although me and dad went a further step to make it look nice, we covered it in laminate flooring (spare after we did the kitchen) and added nicely moulded (and very cheap) baton rail to the edge, looks like, cost about ?4 (the baton rail was all we had to buy!)
