Hello all,

We at PlanB Gaming Ltd have been running private LAN parties for over 2 years now and providing rental machines for many public ones too. We feel its time we hosted our own public LAN party and decided that we would make it a little special, thus we have planned....

THE GREAT OUTDOOR LAN PARTY

We have organised all the costs and are now just trying to decide whether to take the plunge and put down deposits for equipment ect. So I am interested to know whether you think we can get 200-300 people to attend this LAN. Let me show you what we have planned.

3 Marquees filled with gamers from Friday midday to Sunday evening
1 Marquee just to sleep in
On site professional BBQ providing delicious snacks and meals
On site Pub with licensed bar also serving food
Hire machines and monitors available
Internet connection
Load of silly prizes and competitions
A ton of servers
Also a CS tournament with a ?1000 cash prize pot plus other prizes

All this to be held in a beautiful field in Berkshire from 1st September - 3rd September.

The cost, about ?40'ish for the weekend plus an extra ?10 for the CS tournament

As i said above im trying to see whether to take the plunge, so... would you come along? Let me know what you guys and girls think.

The outside is a truly scary place as far as I'm concerned, but good luck with it...

I seem recall a Dutch event held in fields but they used Army tents. Sounds good to me tbh will the marquees be screened could get very bright otherwise.

Now I am a tBG man through and through but would be interested although this would take me way out of my comfort zone.

one problem may be condensation on the inside of the marquees . . . just a thought . . . you really dont want things dripping in PCs

First off good luck with it.

Just a few things which if I was doign it I'd be thinking hard about.

1) providing enough power indoors is quite difficult, running long cables outside could be difficult and costly.
2) is having the lan outside REALLY going to attract more people? (or are their cost benefits etc?)

Like I said best of luck!! :)

Believe me, he has the power sorted (nearly 4 times what we have @ tBG :o)

And this thread is supposed to answer that question Blackstar :P

And personally I wouldn't go to a LAN just cos it was outside...but I would go becuase of the other stuff you said is going on :)

I second this i would be tempted if there were a contingent of tBG'ers going :D

It does sound like quite a good idea, but it can be a tad chilly that weekend!

Thanks for the support guys.

As far as costs go, outside is more expensive. Though that depends on numbers.

We are just trying to see whether the fact it is outdoors is a big enough draw to get people to come along.

I was more worried about the heat, September is a dodgy month it will either be backing hot or freezing cold. I am hoping that a few hundred Uber PCs would take the edge of it a bit.

I would suggest you take your Bahama gear and your Thermals. It can be tricky playing games with Ski gloves on though although back in my rufty tufty military days I used to use my keyboard with NBC gloves on (Bit like wellies for hands), now that is hard core.
