hey guys,
i got a xbox 360 for xmas and i have been trying to set up xbox live in my front room, however i am a little unsure if it is possible to do it using an ntl set top box. I used the only ethernet cable on the back of the set top box( i guess its the one that goes all around the house into back of my pc) to connect to the xbox...

however when running the connection tests(after passing connect/ip address tests) it fails on MTU(maximum transfer unit). It says that the router/gateway may have either the wrong settings or may not be configured to allow as much MTU as needed.

basically i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Dan

The instructions do mention having to enter the mac address in the network settings for some cable setups this might be your problem.

Oh and congratulations on a wise choice of console my friend. Remember if you have a sister DO NOT BUY Viva Pinata it will be the last time you get to play on your console.

Indeed, NTL doesn't usually appreciate the MAC address of the connecting host changing.

what u will need to do is turn off your set top box and then plug in your cable to your 360 and then power on the set top box this should solve the problem i did that for over a year running 2 computers on the same ntl broadband set top box, but ultimately you will need to buy a broadband/cable router make sure you DON'T get one with an ADSL modem built in here is a good one http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/48700/rb/24053381747 but ebuyer do there own for as little as ?23.99

Dan give me a shout next time you're on MSN, I have a spare Router, brand new you can have for ?20 "Originally brought for ?30, and unopened."

*It's a 4 port G grade Wireless Cable/DSL router, exactly what you need for the 360 and any wireless devices*

cool they are still a bitch those ntl boxes tho, you used to get a special service for xbox live from ntl but they have discontinued it for some reason as it was only a couple more pounds a month and gave you an extra IP address never mind
