ok so i have just got a new system and at the very core of the system is the 7950 for some reason when i play CS : S i seem to get on average about 10 fps even with everything set to low i can only asume it is the gfx card because when i go to settings it tells me i have software DX 9 but my hardware is DX 0 which is very strange has any one else had problem

my specs are as follows

Mobo: Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590
Pro: AMD X2 4600+
Mem: 2 gig of DDR2
Gfx: 7950 GT XXX so its a little bit overclocked

it runs other games ok but no where near what i expected

PS. i no English is my friend so if you need any futher explanation let me no :D

Hmm, try the direct x diagnostic, see what version it says there (start, run, dxdiag) Otherwise try installing new drivers.

try grabbing the latest dx9c installer from microsoft as for some reason they have released 4 or 5 different revisions all called dx9c which to be quite honest is stupid.

Update, Update and update again. I have the same card and although CSS is to quick for my old adled brain it runs smoothly using that card at my default resolution 1280 by 1024 (CS Source) I think the in game test put the FPS in the 50s so you should be aiming for something similar.

I would not overclock the card until your have it running normally then you can break it ;). Remember only break one thing at a time it is the PC Support golden rule well other than switch off and on again.

my card comes pre-overclocked i could set it down to the ref settings (underclock the card) and see if it is any better. Also i downloaded what i think are the latest DX9 drivers last night

And if the latest drivers don't work so well, downgrade to the previous ones - it's not uncommon for bleeding edge drivers to break more than they fix.

Its the sign from the gods not to play CS, heed their warning or face their unyielding wrath!

There have been a huge numbers of DX9c updates, install the DX9c redist that comes with a brand spanking new game, or get the latest redist from the site, it will add some 34 hotfixes the files are something like <randomdxrubbish>_1.dll _2.dll _32.dll etc.

If that doesn't fix your problem, as noted above, try diffirent drivers.

Failing all of the above, don't play CS, its not loss really.

OH your kidding!!! Ive just bought 2 7950 GX2's!

Ah well, hopefully CSS should still work... As much as you all hate it I still love it!!

It's great, they just don't know any better :( CS was good, but CS without wallbanging, heaven!

well i reset the auto config last night and now counter-strike shows i am running dx9.0+ i ran the game test and got 77fps so i think its all sorted till i try to play a game online and it still runs at 5-10 fps  does any one have any other ideas

i noticed an fps increase after turning off hdr then deleting the clientregistry.blob, maybe it notices a hardware change or something

OK, i cant play CSS without V-synch on, which sux ass... I wanted to see what my fps was :( Although i think my CPU is a bottleneck (AMD64 x2 4400+) would i not see much difference?

Also Iv got an over heating problem with running the new cards. I think they are heating the CPU up too much coz my comp locks up after playing 20 mins of CSS, but not other games with SLi enabled. Disabled its fine. Think im gonna try venting some heat out as a cheap alternative to new liquid cooling :S

That sounds like a problem with CSS and the SLI drivers, not heat or anything else. And in no way can that CPU be called a bottleneck. Run 3d mark for a while and see if it freezes up, then it may be a heat problem, but if you dont find it in other games, i doubt its CSS causing it, as CSS cant rape a GFX card that much.

I just got the amd cpu monitor, and the temp never goes above 52 degrees so it aint heat
*wipes forehead!!*

Lets just hope Valve input some compatibility for SLi (Doubtful). At least I know now anyways!!

Thanks guys :D:D:D:D:D:D

I have Crossfire with 2 Radeon X1900XTs, and not all games work with it, some don't start, others get weird graphical glitches including slowdowns. So you just have to play it by ear really and realise that not all applications will like the dual GPU setup.
