View Full Version : DX9 problems with a 7900GT

Oblivion crashed on me earlier today and appears to have screwed something up as I cant get hardware acceleration on my main monitor to work. dxdiag reports under display 1 "Direct3D functonality not availible". I would just swap the monitor cables but Im not sure if its normal for only one screen to have harware acceleration and I would rather try and fix it if its broken.

Setup
7900GT setup to use dual view so that windows manages the graphics cards not the stupid clone, horizontal span, etc modes in the nvidia driver
Dell screen on one channel (using digital output)
Samsung screen on the other channel (using digital to analogue adapter thingy)

Things I've tried so far
Restarted - no effect
Uninstalled/Reinstalled drivers - no effect
Updated to the latest nvidia drivers - no effect
Swapping which screen windows treats as primary - no effect
Unchecking the "Extend my windows desktop blah blah blah. . . " on my second screen - Allows the use of D3D acceleration on my main screen but then I can't use my second screen

Can anyone confirm if they have hardware acceleration on both outputs of an nvidia graphics card? If everyone only has it availible on one card I'll just swap the cables.
Any other ideas?

Don't you need to use the nvidia spanning drivers to get acceleration on both screens?

Don't know I'm afraid, Haven't had my dual monitor set-up for a while and I can't recall how it functioned when enabled.

My dual monitor setup goes to buggery when the resolution isnt set properly for one of the monitors, ive never got a game to span both of them yet.

Try Supreme Commander, it's designed for dual monitors and aparently works really well, and usefully too!

Sorry for the confusion. Im not trying to run the game across both screens but the screen I want to play it on isnt playing ball (hardware acceleration wise)

Ive just tried to game on the both outputs, and the second output looked like crap, no d3d by the look of it.

If you could see what DX diag says that would be really usefull but It looks like somethings gone a bit odd and its swapped which output has d3d acceleration. Guess ill just swap the cables.

Its actually saying both havd d3d enabled. The quality loss was because I was playing GTA San Andreas, which needs each monitors options set on load up, and it was set low.

Well I checked the graphics card using dxdiag yesterday and it was still playing silly buggers. checked it today and its working :-/ both screens have d3d acceleration enabled.

I think its something on Nforce boards as I had a problem with my nic on this board and my old one (now in hades) when we had a power cut.

When the power came back on both of the NICs just wouldnt work. Hades crashed while loading the nic driver under linux and my pc just couldnt access the lan. unplugged the power on both of them and they both magically started working again even though I had tried restarting, cold booting, etc.

Do you have anything like wake-up on LAN enabled in the BISO for nforce? something somewhere is storeing a charge which is causing the error, if its a generic capacity problem (ie something that shouldn't be storeing a charge at shutdown is) then you have a problem, if its something that should be storeing a charge of extended periods of time (wake up on LAN, COMOS battrey etc) then it could be an option is set somewhere causing said charge to be stored and thus the problem

This may be very wrong, but based on what you said its a possible reason.

I think youre probably right and its because of WOL / the atx standby power but im not going to disable WOL as I actually use it. Its not really a big issue . . . more of a good guideline when I should stop playing :).
