My second plantronics headset is finally dieing too much to repair so I need some recommendations on a new set.

I'm really after a decent pair of headphones to listen to music and occasionally play games.

The only real gripes I've had with the current set are that the bass is pretty weak and the mic boom got loose and floppy after a year or so. Oh and if I don't shave for a day or so the stubble has a cheese grater effect on the foam bits :-/.

I'm not really after a usb set as I've got a pretty good soundcard.

Other than that im fairly open to suggestions but music is my first priority and gaming is second and I'll happily retrofit the mic from another headset if necessary.

Budget is ~ £50

Cheers

Hadnt heard of those before but the reviews are pretty good though lack detail.

I was looking at the Sennheiser PC161s which looked quite interesting

Can't go wrong with sennheisers they rock :) i have a fair few pairs and they all sound good :). The pc headphones are very good played with a couple sets and can't fault them plus there pretty comfy, although if you don't want a mic no harm in getting some PMX60s i have a pair and well they do rock, bass is good, sound good and there comfy as.

Well I've been using the Sennheiser HD 515's for a few years now, and although I bought them at ?100 they are now just over ?50 and I can't fault them in any way whatsoever. Very comfortable for extensive sessions and if you don't mind having a mic then I recommend them thoroughly. Check out this site (http://www.headphoneworld.com/product_details.php?item_id=125&category_id=&category_name=&group_name=) for more info and perhaps look at some other stuff there too, very good company to get them from.

Jim.

Bloody hell, if your going to spend £100 you can get pro quality headsets, IE something like a Beyerdynamic dt100, which are studio quality headphones with a mic in, those are the ones you see BBC cameramen using! And belive me, there good, I own a pair for live sound work.

For £50 however, I would get the Sennheiser PC150 Binaural Headset, we use them at work, and even when you have them on for 4-5 hours straght, its still bloody confortable!

the Sennheiser HD 515's are about 50 and im really tempted by them. I'm not convinced they apply the same standards to the "gaming" headsets and I cant find a balanced review of them either.

I can always add a boom mic at a later date :D

hey hey,

the dt100's are great headphones, its just a shame they look like summin out of battlestar galactica...

i use my Sennheiser HD-25 for everything, including all of my gigging as they are built like brickshit houses, they sound great and are frickin loud (useful for me). They survived 5 days of working at muddy muddy glasto whey! They are pretty pricy, about 115 quid, but there is a stripped down version, the HD-25SP for about 70 quid i think. Basically they have a very similar if not the same speaker afaik just without a few of the bells and whistles.

Apart from that there are some other makes and models you may want to look at such as Audio Technica ATH910 which come in at 50 quid and the AKG K301XTRA which are about 55 quid.

Im not too sure if i should be offended by that but function over form imo :).

Thanks for the recommendations as I really didnt have much of an idea about what to go for (I guess I know how my rents feel when it comes to PC stuff now).

I'm quite tempted by the dt100s as I've seen them for ~70 / 80 (probably + vat) from a couple of places and thats within my budget.

The HD-25s are outside my budget but the HD-25 SPs are within so its a toss up between the dt100s and the HD-25 SP.

I think the only difference you will really tell is that the DT100's cover the whole ear, and are closed back, so barely any sound gets in/our. Whilst the Sennheisers arnt quite as big, and i dont think are closed back, so you will hear some other ambient sounds.

I'd get the DT100'S and if you really want, they do make them in all black.

I ordered the dt100s today and should get them tomorrow.

It turns out they cost 80 inc vat which was a nice suprise :)

EDIT:
All I can say is wow they freaking rock!
