Is there going to be a DC tourney at this LAN and if so what's the team size, maps and other little details going to be? Just wondering as I can own at DC and do not wish to own at CS. (shock shock someone doesn't like CS :p )

There is a tourney in the pipelines but the details are not going to be released yet, however I can tell you it will be an singles tourney.

"Singles tourney" as in, we will judge the winners on individual merit, as opposed to a team winning so it will be entirely possible for 3 people from entirely different teams / clans to take the top three places

naa, its still going to be 32 Vs 32, but individual people with win overall as opposed to teams winning.

The emphasis beign more on having lots of big, fun games, rather than loads of smaller, competetive games.

Also for a good game of desert combat you need at least 10 v 10.

I kinda came up with the system at the pub, after copious ammounts of alcohol. It should work, as long as we can sort out chopper campers http://www.thebiggame.org/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

ban people from using choppers? I actually think that the single tourny idea is brilliant. I was sceptical at first until I read the post about the amount of players you need for a decent game.

Maybe all the teams could play at once, and providing you have an equal number of players and an even number of teams coiuld you also not have a team based tourny where the average ranking of each player in a respective team is used so that there can still be team work between the teams? Probably haven't put my idea across correctly but hopefully the jist of it has carried over.

Heres the plan

There will be 6 games over the weekend.
1. This game is the qualifier for the teams. This score sheet is ranked, reglardless of team, and the people are numbered 1,2,1,2 etc... This is then the players will be split into the 2 teams. These are the teams for the tournie. This could mean that clans end up playing each against each other, but we believe that it is the only way 2 make fair teams. This will be the most ballanced map we can find.

2-5 These will be games based on fair maps, mainly the new dc ones, that encourage team play, and discourage chopper camping, as this is the 1 unballanced part of DC.

The scores from each game will be recorded, and imputted into a spreadsheet. This score, is not ur kills, but the compound score that takes into account deaths, and captures as well as kills. At the end of the tournie the top 3 scores are the 3 winners.

Please post any further ideas u ave below!

Prehaps not ban as much as discourage is some way, as i explaned above they are genrally believed to unballance the game, by the whole mods community. Evne though there power has been reduced.

My idea:

Use a CTF format as last time. Have 2-3 matches, where each time plays both sides (ie 4 or6 total games). Allocate by some means (maybe random or seeded or whatever) the teams for the first game. Once over the peoples score will be calculated by something like
(kills - deaths) + ( x * caps)
where x is a number thought to place suitable emphasis on caps.
second and third games take leaderboard and place posn 1 on team 1, posn 2 on team 2, posn 3 on team 1 etc

This way the emphasis should be kept on good teamplay (coz a cap boosts everyone's score) while still allowing the individual element to remain.

/me hides from backlash

Ctf last year sucked. Ud need big teams, and good ctf maps; of which there are no specific dc ones. Also the games suggested are 'fun' and involve everyone, involve minimal preperation; as hopefully most people will play, as not much else will be happening. Also the ctf uses alot of server time, esp as u only ave 10 or so peeps a side, and need 2 run a ladder/knockout tournie . People also need to be in clans, they would rebel against us ranking and putting them in clans, so the clans would be unmatched, as happend last time. Therefore its nolonger fun and also people get knocked out, so they can no longer play.

The system is desighned to encourage team play. Were going to use objective, and ballanced maps, that need team play to capture the objectives. Also with the ballanced teams, players that go all commando will find thenselves dieing often, and will either play with the team, or get bored and feck off.

DC also currently runs on the cs server, so a ctf interfeers with the cs plans, as the game needs to be changed. But hopefully with plan b attending this event, we can use there server, and keep the cs'rs happy with a cs server running!

Any pressing questions/ideas speak to me or Jynx in irc, but please be patient, we have had alot of pm's so we may ignore you for a while.

On a different note, my router is fucked so i may not be in irc till sometime next week!

IMO, DC is best played as a fun, 'whole room' kind of game whereby everyone joins in now and then for a huge game and just has a laugh. I understand that people want a tourney for it but I was in the CTF tourney at the last tBG and to say the least, it wasn't that great. I would love to play in the large fun games but I just don't think it's quite cut out to have tourneys in DC atm. Remember it is still a beta people.

I don't reckon any type of DC tourney will be too great at this moment in time. However, it might work out and you never know until you try :) That's my 2 cents, or whatever, you get the idea.

You guys get worried over the silliest things. This is what is happening, its not hard!

There will be 3 Huge games of DC through out the weekend (these are scheduled btw)

At the end of each game all the stats will be recorded by us (the crew)

Once all three games have finnished, the crew will get together and figure out the prize giving. This will probably based on caps, kills, deaths etc (these individual merits are not decided yet)

Remember DC is a TEAM GAME (flaaaaags) so in order to have a chance of getting any prizes you will have to play as a team (flaaaaags)

It will be done fairly dont worry about that!
We are trying to do this as a fun group alternative to CS. Games are fun!

Hope this makes it clear

oh btw....obviously the max players on DC is 64. There is nothing we can do about this. So its basically up to you guys to make sure you get in the server nice and early. first come first serve and all that.

the single player idea sounds alright, and i'll play it for fun, but i still think it should play in our own teams and for big single player games, have a game of q3 deathmatch or something

its not single player, basically its one half of the room versus the other ie 32 vs 32. Then we work out the stats after all three games are played. We are giving prizes to individual players, based on their merits through out the game. It is still very much played in a team!

I would just like to reenforce this point, Team work will play a large factor in your assement, as it is after all a team game :), you will still get credit for solo actions of course, but not as great as say, working with a small team to take out an outpost, and you coodinating it, or doing some fancy shooting or some such.

The reason we are doing this is to give everyone a chance, instead of simply having one team with all good players taking all the prizes. It should also be a lot more fun, as BF really needs loads of players, 5v5 just doesn't really cut it :P
