Valve respond to my Steam LAN play question...

I mailed Erik at Valve asking if the LAN play for Steam would be ready anytime soon. Unfortunately the answer was no... Nevermind, looks like I will need to get CS 1.5 working again.

WB: I will be attending a LAN party in good old Great Britain on the 2, 3 and 4th of Jan 2004. Is it likely that the LAN update for Steam will be available in time?

Erik: We're not going to have offline play ready by then.
WB: Will you be handing the Gold disk to Vivendi soon for HL2?
Erik: I'll be making the Gold disk for HL2 whe.......<choke> <cough>
He did confirm that Natural Selection and Sven Coop will be the next games to be released via Steam but then we all probably knew that already.

Well that pretty much comfirms it, the CS Torney will be on CS 1.5. Get practaicing and unlearn some new skills ;)

As for NS on Steam, yep knew that. When NS 3: Combat Evolved is released it'll be be Steam Powered, didn't know about Sven, but thats such a bloody great game so its about time :)

I have mailed Erik twice over the years and both times he has replied.

Sven coop will likely be releasing version 3 via steam and via the normal route most likely in time for xmas but who knows.

Sven coop is the dogs bollocks for early hours play as numbers do not matter.

Gah, I've only just learnt to buy the right guns in 1.6, now I'm gonna get all my buys wrong again. Motion to change the freezetime to longer so I can actually get the gun I'm after xD

IF and only IF we can get Inet access we will do it on 1.6 but I wouldn't count on any Inet access, and 56k for Steam isn't gonna work now is it? :P

I was serious about increasing the freezetime :p . Uber-hope we don't have to use 1.5 but Valve being slow can hardly come as a suprise to anyone :rolleyes:

well i'm supprised anyone could get an answer from that that lot thought they would be to busy trying to make the LAN version work to reply to e-mails. Still they probably are all getting pissed for xmas

The steam interface in 1.6 is much better than the clunky 1.5.. but then thats about the only good thing, though I have got used to it now

Heh, Well I have Steam installed, its getting better, slowly. How does the firends bit actually work? is it based on account emails?

It works like a search engine. Yes you could part or all of an email address equally you could use a nickname or first and last name if supplied.
