Sim City 4 crashes to desktop

I recently got this game from my friend to try it out since ive heard of this gaming havning alor of bugs and so on.

I wanted to buy it but i didnt want to buy something that doesnt work.

Its a cool game and i'd like to get it working, but it just keeps crashing to desktop and my population is only 1000 and all the graphic settings are on low. My computer doesnt crash, just exits the game then goes to desktop.

I have a 2.4GHZ cpu
256MB DDR Ram
64mb geforce4 MX440
p4 motherboard

Can anyone please give me any suggestions how to get the game working nicely?

EA Games always makes buggy games, argh :(

my first guess would be your graphics card, ive had similar crashes in games before which were fixed when i upgraded my particularly old graphics card to a new one.

Alhtough, i would definatly try a quick reinstall of your OS before you go and splash the cash, ive never been able to play the new mechwarrior game until last week when i reinstalled win2K....

MX :( thats your problem SC is a powerwhore, its got more polyies than any First Person Shooter and seriously need Gfx RAM for its back buffing (instead of having to redraw the entire screen every time it basicly makes a fecking large bmp image and just scrolls that :))

Also there are 3 patches or so out for it, grab them.

However it is possible to play sim city 4k on the MX, i'm living proof of that. Like dave said try patches graphics card and game patches.

yeah i managed to play SC4 fairly well with my MX400 64Mb card on a 1.4Ghz system with only 256Mb of RAM so its possible

With that siad, SC runs better on GeForce than it does Rads (well any rad before XT) due to some major diffirence in the Z-buffering between the cards.

Odd that it would crash tho :(

hi i have been having a problem with my sim city 4 it goes in to a black screen every time that i try to start it my system is
AMD athlon xp 3000

hmm is anyone else seeing that everyone with a problem has a geforce ? maybe i'm just pissing in the dark but it could be significant
